Biography

Antoine Guilmain is a lawyer in the field of data protection, access to information, online advertising and marketing, cybersecurity, and information technologies. He holds an LL.D. in Information Technology Law from the Université de Montréal and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

Antoine earned a doctorate in law from the Université de Montréal (with highest honours) and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (very honourable mention with congratulations). He holds licentiates in law and political science from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and an LL.M. in Business Law from the Université de Montréal. He spent two years working at the Cyberjustice Laboratory, which develops software solutions to facilitate access to justice. He also worked as a teaching and research assistant for several professors, including Pierre Trudel and Vincent Gautrais. Between 2014 and 2016, he conducted research at the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology, the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law, and the Fordham Center on Law and Information Policy.

Antoine has published a number of articles on privacy, civil procedure, copyright, computer security and information technology and has also spoken on these topics at numerous conferences and in the classroom. He teaches a course on “Digital Data and Life Science” at the Université de Sherbrooke. In recent months, Antoine has taken a particular interest in the new European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and in the prospects of federal and Quebec legislation in this area. He has submitted briefs in this regard to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and the Commission des institutions of the National Assembly of Quebec, and has also participated in its public consultation.

Antoine has always been involved throughout his career, both academically (Association des cycles supérieurs en droit, Quartier Libre student newspaper) and professionally (Young Bar of Montreal, IAPP, cultural organizations). He also participated in various student competitions (Willem C. Vis, SPECQUE) for which he won many scholarships.
